A simple cost-estimating guide

Every BlueWood plan includes a material list and an estimated build cost, but that number is a starting point — lumber, glass and labor prices shift by region and season. Use it to set a range, then confirm with local supplier quotes before you commit.

A useful rule of thumb: materials are roughly half your budget, labor (if you're hiring any) is the other half, and finishes — flooring, paint, built-ins — are the line item people underestimate most. Price finishes early if they matter to you.

Add a contingency of 10–15% for the things every build runs into: a rotten fence post in the way, an extra yard of gravel, a window on backorder. Building it into the budget from day one is a lot less stressful than finding it later.

If a plan's estimate feels out of reach, look at the next size down in the same category rather than cutting corners on the same footprint — a smaller building done right holds its value better than a larger one done cheaply.
