Understanding DIY skill levels

Beginner and Weekend Build plans use straightforward rectangular framing, standard lumber sizes and simple rooflines. If you're comfortable with a circular saw, a drill and a level, and you're willing to follow instructions step by step, you can build one of these — most people do it over one to two weekends with a helper.

DIY Friendly and Intermediate plans introduce a few more variables — slightly more complex rooflines, more window openings, or a small electrical run. You'll want some prior framing experience, or a willingness to learn alongside a knowledgeable friend.

Advanced and Premium plans assume real building experience: multi-plane rooflines, lofts, larger spans, more involved electrical and sometimes plumbing. Most people building these either have a construction background or bring in a contractor for the framing and shell, then finish the interior themselves.

Skill level is about the building, not about you — someone who's never built anything can absolutely complete a Weekend Build plan with care and the right tools. Start there, and the next one gets easier.
